Why do i have issues connecting my astro c40 controller

When attempting to connect my astro c40 controller, I get a message saying no drivers were found to install. The only way to connect is to update drivers with xbox 360 peripherals. Doing so when playing games, the games think I am playing with an xbox controller and some functions on my astro c40 will not work. I have an hp pavilion laptop and when I plug my controller in, it immediately recognizes it as an astro c40 and I do not need to update the drivers.
