A question out of ignorance.
What is required to manage a smartphone from MDM Intune?
Does the user always need a paying O365 license?
Our employees use Microsoft 365 Premium licenses, and can log in to the company portal. However, workers are not licensed at all.

    Hi,

Just simply an "Intune License" will do the trick and allow you to enroll devices into Intune. If your frontline workers need mailboxes and maybe teams i would personally go for an F3 as the intune license does not provide this but if you just need sight of their devices and nothing else the above will work.

    Thanks

Hi LeeFitches, thanks for the reply.

I can find a number of licenses that Intune is a part of, but I can't find a separate one for MDM anywhere.

There are lots of different licensing vehicles that include Intune rights including those you posted a screenshot of. You should contact your account team or a licensing reseller for further options.

MDM is the main functionality of Intune and they are inseparable from each other so not sure what you are asking here.

Don't confuse Microsoft 365 (M365) with Office 365 (O365) -- these are not the same. M365 is a super set of and thus includes O365, but M365 contains much more than O365 including MEM. O365 only includes the products formerly known as Office though (like Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. and are now known as Microsoft 365 apps) and not Intune or MEM.
