Azure Batch Smalldisk custom image

Hello,

We are trying to build an application which will use custom images in Azure Batch Pool.
In Azure Batch, the 'Marketplace' Image type has provision to deploy 'smalldisk' worker nodes for 2016/2019 Datacenter.
Currently as part of Image creation process, we create Virtual Machine through Azure portal, install custom applications and then 'Capture' the image from portal.
But as part of this process, I do not see 'smalldisk' option available while creating Virtual Machines.

Is there a provision to upload 2016/2019 Datacenter 'smalldisk' images to 'Shared Image gallery' which can be later used in Azure Batch Pools nodes?
Is there a minimum size limit for images in 'Shared Image gallery'? If yes, can you please share the relevant documentation.

@Kale, Vaibhav Did you tried to select browse all in the standard VM Compute portal to see all images?

@prmanhas-MSFT Yes, it tried that too. I Didn't see any 'Smalldisk' version of Windows 2016 Server. Can you please verify this?

If you check the list as shown I also saw same :

You need to select Browse all public image and private images and then select Compute and search for smalldisk:

@prmanhas-MSFT Thanks for your answer! How does this version '[smalldisk] Windows Server, version 1809 with Containers' differs from '2016 datacenter smalldisk' SKU available while creating Pools in Azure Batch.

From what I have read about Windows Containers, I do not think it fits my requirements. I am looking for something similar to the one highlighted in image above '2016 datacenter smalldisk' from which I want to create my own custom image with pre-installed software and then use that custom image downstream in Azure Batch.

@Kale, Vaibhav The difference in the images is whether they support running containers on the images. Both are base images and you could base a custom image off either.

@prmanhas-MSFT Can you please show any documentation which explains how to base a custom image from '2016 datacenter smalldisk' SKU available in Azure Batch Pool? I don't think this is possible, but if you can point to right documentation which says otherwise it will be very helpful. My intent is to base a custom image from the Virtual Machines image list and I do not see a smalldisk version in Virtual Machines Image list (non-container image).

@Kale, Vaibhav This documentation describes using any first party image such as pretty much all windows images to create a SharedImageGallery (current preferred way of using custom images in terms of cost and scale), and then use it with batch.

You might be likely using the core compute portal and isn’t seeing it due to them only showing a couple images for UI cleanliness. They can see all available images at
