Tip

Before you create a streaming endpoint, you should review the Media Services live streaming best practices guide.

Methods

Use the following methods to create a streaming endpoint.

Portal

Create a streaming endpoint in the portal

1. Navigate to the Media Services account you want to work with.
2. Select Streaming endpoints from the menu.
3. Select + Streaming endpoint. The Create a streaming endpoint screen will appear.
4. Enter a name into the Streaming endpoint name field.
5. Select a streaming endpoint type from the Streaming endpoint types selections:
   1. Standard. Select the Standard streaming endpoint if you expect egress bandwidth to be less than 600 Mbps, and you will not be using a CDN.
   2. Premium. Select the Premium streaming endpoint if you expect egress bandwidth to be higher than 600 Mbps and you plant to use a CDN.
      1. Enter the number of streaming units for the Premium endpoint in the Streaming units field.
6. To automatically start the streaming endpoint after it is created, select the Yes radio button from the Start streaming endpoint after creation selections. Otherwise, select the No radio button.

   Warning

   When the streaming endpoint is started, billing begins.

Python

Create a streaming endpoint with Python

The functions in the Python code snippets assume that you have:

1. Imported the necessary modules. You may not need all of the modules shown here. If the code below doesn't use the module, you can omit it.
2. Created and edited an .env file that contains your authentication values. You can get a sample.env file from the Media Services Python samples.
3. Read and instantiated environment variables by using load_env() as below. Depending on what you are doing, you may or may not need some of the variables.
4. Created a Media Services client as below.
