About Update Services
New with Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 (Windows SBS 2003 R2), Update Services provides centralized patch and update management for computers that are on the Windows SBS 2003 R2 network and that are running one of the Windows operating systems that support Microsoft Update.
By using the Update Services snap-in in the Server Management console, you can help protect the Windows SBS network by keeping Windows-based computers on the network up-to-date with the latest Microsoft software updates.
Next Steps
After Setup is finished, Update Services is installed, but it is not enabled or running because you must first enable synchronization. Before you can enable synchronization, you must complete the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard (CEICW). Otherwise, a message appears on the Update Services home page prompting you to run the CEICW.
To run the CEICW, complete the Connect to the Internet task in the To Do List. To then enable synchronization, go to the Update Services home page in the Server Management console.
To learn more about Update Services, go to the Update Services home page and click the More Information link.
