Concepts: Managing shared resources

Platí pro: Windows SBS 2003

Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server 2003 enables you to share and manage folders and printers. The following resources can be easily viewed and configured using either Server Management or Server Management for Power Users.

Shared printers and faxes

After installing Windows Small Business Server 2003, network users can share printer and fax resources. Network administrators can add, remove, and configure network printers directly from either of the preconfigured management consoles. Using Server Management, or Server Management for Power Users, it is easy to access and modify printer settings, such as port assignments, security, sharing, and other printing options, such as page separators.

Until a document is finished printing on a shared printer, it appears in the job list for that printer. While a print job is in the job list, you can use Server Management, or Server Management for Power Users, to view pending print jobs, change the order of print jobs, and pause, resume, or cancel print jobs in the print queue.

Windows Small Business Server 2003 supports all printers listed for the Windows Server™ 2003 family of products. For information about compatible hardware, see "Support resources" at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=53404).

To learn how to share printers and faxes and manage printers and print jobs, see Manage Fax Printers.

Shared folders

You can share files over the network by granting users access to shared folders on the Windows Small Business Server network.

Sharing a folder makes a file accessible over the network. When you create a shared folder or share an existing folder on the server, users gain access to the folder, all of the files in the folder, and all of the subfolders and their contents. After a folder is shared, you can assign access rights to users. To learn how to share or stop sharing folders, see Work with shared folders.
