You should back up your server before upgrading

Before upgrading, it is recommended that you complete and verify a full backup of your server.

If you have already backed up your server, select the I acknowledge all warnings check box to continue Setup.

To back up your server

  1. Perform a full system backup. If your server is a domain controller, include the System State data. For more information about performing a full system backup, see the following sources:

  2. For more information about backing up Windows 2000 Server, click Start, click Help, and then search for “back up.”

  3. For more information about backing up Windows Server 2003, click Start, click Help and Support, and then search for “back up.”

  4. For more information about backing up Small Business Server 2000, see “Backup and Recovery for Small Business Server 2000” at the Microsoft TechNet Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=12282).

  5. Create a repair or recovery disk using one of the following methods:

  6. On a computer running Windows 2000 Server or Small Business Server 2000, create an emergency repair disk. For more information, click Start, click Help, and then search for “emergency repair disk.”

  7. On a computer running Windows Server 2003, create an automated system recovery set using the Backup or Restore Wizard. For more information, click Start, click Help and Support, and then search for “automated system recovery.”

  8. Verify that the backup ran successfully, and then test the integrity of the backup. To test the integrity of the backup, select random files from your backup, restore them to an alternate location, and then confirm that the files are the same.

You may need to contact the hardware manufacturer to obtain updated drivers for Windows Server 2003.
