If you can access a file on your device, you can share the file with other people in Teams. This includes files (of any type) that are on the Files tab of your channels and chats, in your OneDrive or other cloud storage, and on your local device. Send the file itself or send a link to the file.

Share a file from OneDrive in Teams

When you upload a file to Teams, you can share it anytime with other people and groups. 

To share a file in Teams for desktop:

  1. Select OneDrive  OneDrive icon in Teams, and go to My files  OneDrive My files icon.

  2. Hover over the file you want to share and select Share  Share icon.

    1. Select Copy link  OD copy link icon to get a link you can paste into chat or email.

    2. Select Sharing settings  The "Settings" button found in the user interface to specify people and their permissions with the file.

  3. Select Apply to save changes.

  4. Select Send  Send icon.

Share a file in a chat

To share a file in a chat message:

  1. Go to Teams and select Chat

  2. Open the chat conversation you want to share a file in.

  3. Select Attach file Choose file button beneath the compose box.

  4. Select OneDrive or Upload from my computer, depending on where the file is located.

  5. Select the file and then select Share or Open.

This will upload a copy of your original file.

Tip: If the file you want to share is available in your computer's file directory, you can just drag it to the message. 

Share a file from OneDrive in Teams

iOS

To share a file in Teams for mobile (iOS):

  1. Open your Teams mobile app.

  2. Tap More  Microsoft teams More options icon.Files.

  3. Locate the file you want to share.

  4. Next to the file, tap More options  Select to see more options > Share.

    1. To share a file in a chat, tap the Chats tab and enter the name of the chat or person you want to send the file in.

    2. To share a file in a channel, tap the Channels tab and enter the name of the channel you want to send the file in.

  5. Add an optional message and tap Send  Send icon.

Android

To share a file in Teams for mobile (Android):

  1. Open your Teams mobile app.

  2. Swipe up from the navigation bar at the bottom and tap Files.

  3. Find the file you want to send and tap More options  Select to see more options > Share.

    1. To share a file in a chat, tap the Chats tab and enter the name of the chat or person you want to send the file to.

    2. To share a file in a channel, tap the Channels tab and enter the name of the channel you want to send the file to.

  4. Add an optional message and tap Send  Send icon.

Share a file in a chat

You can upload files to Teams on the desktop or web, and view them on your mobile device any time after that.

To attach a file to a channel conversation or a chat, tap Attach below the box where you type a message and select the file from your device or cloud storage service.
