Unable to enable backup on fortigate VM

Hi Team,

I have a fortigate VM on which we have deployed fortigate firewall in our environment. Following are the details of the VM.

Operating system:Linux (FortiOS v7.0.14)

Size:Standard F2s (2 vcpus, 4 GiB memory)

I am trying to enable backups on this VM. However when i try to enable the backup i get the following error.

The resource write operation failed to complete successfully, because it reached terminal provisioning state 'Failed'. (Code: ResourceDeploymentFailure, Target: /subscriptions/ec044b38-717b-40f9-ad34-ca267c1b17c8/resourceGroups/redx_az_rg/providers/Microsoft.RecoveryServices/vaults/VMvault/backupFabrics/Azure/protectionContainers/iaasvmcontainer;iaasvmcontainerv2;REDFFORTIGATE;Fortigateredx-FGT/protectedItems/vm;iaasvmcontainerv2;REDFFORTIGATE;Fortigateredx-FGT)

I have denied all public network on Recovery service vault.

I have also cheked the backup resource group and there is no lock on it.

From the details shared in the original post, I understand that you are trying to enable backup on FortiGate VM and being greeted with an error message.

Unfortunately, Azure Backup does not support backup of Network appliances like Fortinet FortiGate or most appliances in the Azure Marketplace) for a VM backup. For Azure VM Linux backups, only Microsoft Azure approved distributions are supported - Linux distributions endorsed by Azure. Reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-support-matrix-iaas#operating-system-support-linux https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/linux/endorsed-distros Other bring-your-own Linux distributions might work as long as the Azure VM agent for Linux is available on the VM, and as long as Python is supported.

As a workaround, you can use a snapshot as a point-in-time backup, or to help troubleshoot virtual machine (VM) issues. You can take a snapshot of both operating system (OS) or data disk VHDs.
