MSN Explorer: Change Pop-up Guard settings
MSNSympatico / MSNninemsnMicrosoft Pop-up Guard applies smart filtering technology to determine when to allow or block pop-up ads.
Select filter settings
Click the Help & Settings menu, and then click Settings.
In the left pane, click Pop-up Guard.
Click Filter settings.
Do one of the following:
To block most pop-up windows except those from websites on your pop-up allow list, click Exclusive. This setting may block some pop-up windows that you want to see.
To block pop-up windows except those that MSNSympatico / MSNninemsnMicrosoft thinks you may be interested in and those on your pop-up allow list, click Filter.
To turn off Pop-up Guard and allow all pop-up windows for all websites, click Off.
Click Save Changes.
Choose notifications
Click the Help & Settings menu, and then click Settings.
In the left pane, click Pop-up Guard.
Click Pop-up Guard Notifications.
Do one of the following:
To play a sound when pop-up windows are blocked, select the Play a sound check box.
To animate the Pop-up Guard icon when pop-up windows are blocked, select the Animate the Pop-up Guard icon check box.
To briefly display thumbnails of blocked pop-up windows, select the Show a thumbnail of the pop-up window below the Pop-up Guard icon check box. When multiple pop-up windows are opened at the same time, some of the pop-up windows may not appear as thumbnails.
Click Save Changes.
Edit pop-up allow list
The pop-up allow list lets you choose websites whose pop-up windows you want to see.
Click the Help & Settings menu, and then click Settings.
In the left pane, click Pop-up Guard.
Click Pop-up allow list.
Type the web address, such as “http://www.example.com”, for the website whose pop-ups you want to allow.
Click Add.
Click Save Changes.
Note
- To temporarily allow all pop-up windows associated with a specific web page, press and hold the ALT key while the page is loading. Pop-up Guard continues to block pop-ups for all other web pages.
- To see a thumbnail of the last pop-up window blocked by Pop-up Guard, click the Pop-up Guard icon , and then click Show Last Pop-up.
- Pop-up Guard always allows pop-up windows from:
- Secure websites (sites whose web addresses start with “https://”
- Sites on your trusted sites list.
- Intranet sites.
- Programs installed on your computer (such as adware).
- Secure websites (sites whose web addresses start with “https://”
- To add the web page that you're viewing to your pop-up allow list, click the Pop-up Guard icon , and then click Allow Pop-ups for This Site.
- To allow a pop-up while its thumbnail is visible, press CTRL+SHIFT+U.
