MSN Explorer: Run modem diagnostics

To run modem diagnostics:

Windows 2000 or later

  1. Exit all programs, and close all open windows.

  2. Click Start, and then click Run.

    - Or -

    Click Start, and then click in the Start Search box.

  3. Type Control telephony, and then press ENTER.

  4. On the Modems tab, select the modem for which you want to run diagnostics, and then click Properties.

  5. On the Modem tab, set the Maximum Port Speed to 57600.

  6. On the Diagnostic tab, click Query Modem. If the modem responds and is functioning, the modem information is displayed.

Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition

  1. Exit all programs, and close all open windows.

  2. Click Start, and then click Run.

  3. Type Control telephony, and then press ENTER.

  4. In the Maximum Speed list, select 57600, and then click OK.

  5. On the Diagnostics tab, select the COM port next to the modem for which you want to run diagnostics.

  6. Click More Info. If the modem responds and is functioning, the modem information is displayed.
