MSN Explorer: Help protect your personal information

Follow these guidelines to help protect your personal information while you are online:

Keep your password secret and follow the rules for creating a strong password. For more information, go to the Microsoft security website.
Read each website's privacy statement before disclosing any personal information about yourself. If the site doesn't have a policy, or if it intends to use your information in ways that you don't feel comfortable with, leave the site without disclosing any personal information.
Use discretion. Be cautious about revealing information like your bank account numbers, passwords, driver's license number, and family members' names.
When sending personal information across the Internet, make sure that the website uses encryption. If a site uses encryption, you should see a small icon depicting a closed lock in the status bar of your browser.
Look at the site’s web address. A website that is protected by SSL has “https” at the beginning of its web address, instead of “http”. The “s” at the end stands for “secure”.
If you have children who use the Internet, review these guidelines with them. Be sure that they know about the importance of getting your permission before sharing any personal information online.
