MSN Explorer: Resolve secure-site browsing issues

To resolve a secure-site browsing issue and reset the cipher strength for Windows Internet Explorer:

Windows Millennium Edition and Windows 98

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.

  2. Type regsvr32 softpub.dll wintrust.dll initpki.dll, and then click OK four times.

  3. If you receive a "LoadLibrary("Softpub.dll")failed" error message:

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.

    2. Type regsvr32 c:\windows\system\softpub.dll, click OK, and then click OK again.

    3. Click Start, and then click Run.

    4. Type regsvr32 c:\windows\system\wintrust.dll, click OK, and then click OK again.

    5. Click Start, and then click Run.

    6. Type regsvr32 c:\windows\system\initpki.dll, click OK, and then click OK again.

  4. Click Start, and then click Run.

  5. Type inetcpl.cpl, and then press ENTER.

  6. On the Advanced tab, under Security, select the Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 check boxes.

  7. Clear the Check for server certificate revocation check box, and then click OK.

All other versions of Windows

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.

    Click Start, and then click in the Start Search box.

  2. Type regsvr32 softpub.dll wintrust.dll initpki.dll, and then click OK four times.

  3. Click Start, and then click Run.

    Click Start, and then click in the Start Search box.

  4. Type ipconfig /flushdns, and then click OK.

  5. Click Start, and then click Run.

    - Or -

    Click Start, and then click in the Start Search box.

  6. Type inetcpl.cpl, and then press ENTER.

  7. On the Advanced tab, under Security, select the Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 check boxes.

  8. Clear the Check for server certificate revocation check box, and then click OK.
