OneDrive -storage is full, can't delete old file versions because a retenetion policy prevents it

Hello

I want to delete a retention policy in Microsoft Purview / Data lifecycle management. Theoretically when I click the checkbox on the policy, Edit option should show up.

And although I am the Global Administrator - that doesn't happen.

Any idea where and what setting I have to do to be authorised to perform this action?

Really appreciate any idea!

Make sure you have proper permission to manage rentention policies: If your role group permissions are restricted to a specific set of users or groups, you'll only be able to manage policies for those users or groups.Learn more about role group permissions.

Can you please check and confirm, if you are able to access Roles and scopes in settings page?

To view Role groups in the Roles and scopes area in the Purview portal, users need to be a global administrator or need to be assigned the Role Management role (a role is assigned only to the Organization Management role group). The Role Management role allows users to view, create, and modify role groups.

The Microsoft Purview portal (preview) supports directly managing permissions for users who perform tasks within Microsoft Purview. Using the Roles and scopes area in Settings for the portal, you can manage permissions for users across your Purview data security, data governance, and risk and compliance solutions.

yes, I do have the organizational management role, however that did not help.

It turned out in the meantime, that it is only possible to edit/delete retention policy with E5 licence. So I subcribed to a trial, and immediately delete the unwanted policy as you can see:

However, I still can not delete old file versions, I get error message: Versions of this item cannot be deleted because it is on hold or retention policy applies

And really, in policy lookup section it is still there, and here it is not possible to edit/delete.

Any idea what to do further?

Also, do you think it is possible to manually empty the preservation hold library? Even by clicking on it, I only get an error message, saying someting went wrong.

@Attila Dob - I agree that this issue looks strange and I wasn't able to reproduce this issue. If you have a support plan could you please file a support ticket for deeper investigation and do share the SR# with us?

yes, I already initiated support request to MS, will let you know once there is a solution. Till now, they did not have any idea, just politely asking for my patience and understanding:-).

But testing in "SharePoint diagnostics tool to check for any invalid policies" - does not find any or pending policies

in Data Lifecycle management it says

Also if I check in Data Classification overview for every card it says there is Nothing

but when I try to delete anything, it says a retention policy prevents it:-)

I would laugh on this whole thing, it is so miserable, but for 10 days obviously my drive is not working, accordingly my feeds neither, which is a core in the operation of my company....

‎I deleted retention policy for OneDrive, but in the policy lookup section it is still there‎ (#‎2405221420000925‎)
