Locking comments on a question or an answer

Locking a question or an answer means the question, or the answer can no longer receive comments.

Locking should be used sparingly. There are 2 main justifications for locking questions or answers:
- Discussion has gone too far (Flame wars).
- Too many +1 comments instead of votes.

How to lock a question or answer:

  • Click on the Gear icon for the question or answer.

  • Select “Lock Comments”.

  • Post a brief reason explaining the reason for locking the comments on the question or answer.

  • Select “Lock”.
