Missing comments

On many occasions the site indicates that a comment has been posted to a thread but the comment is not present when the thread is opened. For example, in thread how-to-release-the-c-generated-com-object-when-c-c.html the site indicates a comment was posted 4 hours ago.

But when the thread is open the comment from 4 hours ago is not present.

That's not very clear. So where is this converted answer as a comment? Nothing appeared in the thread.

There are two comments. Unfortunately the revision trail does not track comment to answer to comment conversions and the thread now shows everything as "6 days ago" so its now impossible for us users to know for sure but a guess is this one of these two were converted from answer to comment

It is both confusing and a bit frustrating. When I view the posts to the tags that I follow in chronological order these types of items jump to the top. Then my time is wasted as I search for items that don't exist. The same thing happens when a moderator edits a post from the dim past (presumably to change tags). All of a sudden this previously dead and forgotten item jumps to the top of the chronological order. More time is wasted to get past these resurrected items.

These types of time wasters should be fixed.

And just this morning I received an email notification that a question which I had answered almost a month ago had a new comment posted to it. The content of the notification was the questioner's comment from August 31, 2021, almost a month ago!. This is the related thread - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/532710/merging-libraries.html

And this is what it looks like right now!

And same problem with an erroneous new comment notification for this thread https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/514340/how-to-enable-c11-standard-in-vs-19.html The bogus new comment was the same one posted by the questioner on August 16, 2021

Q&A is definitely broken in some way!
