MDNS not sending queries to the network

I have seen that mdns is not working reliable when a connection is established over wifi. In my special case I am using the Chrome Browser and Chromecast to mirror my PC. But often the Chromecast receiver is not visible with in the browser.
With wireshark I can see the MDNS queries sent from the windows device but I don't see the mdns broadcast on the other devices. So the upper layers in windows are sending the query but it never leaves the wifi interface.
But when I change some properties in the windows system-settings for the wifi card suddenly I can see the queries also on other devices but only for a short time.
In my setup I'm blocking SSDP (Port 1900) to be sure that only mdns is used for device discovery

    This is most likely a known windows bug regarding multicast routing. Chased this issue for a year until finally Intel and Microsoft teamed up and gave this reply:

    The engineering team has investigated this multicast issue with Microsoft. Microsoft is aware there's an issue with the multicast address managed by the OS. The issue has been introduced together with Windows 10 (WDI arch for WiFi Drivers.) Any scenarios of WLAN reconnected (i.e. Airplane mode, roaming out and back into RF range, or disconnect and reconnect to the same SSID) and then the multicast packets might be affected by this issue.
    Currently this issue is expected to be fixed for Windows 10 Version 21H1.

    Basically will multicast stop to work if your wifi has any issues. Can only be resolved by disabling/enabling the interface, reboot machine (or toggle the ipv6 setting).

    Bumping this issue in the same manner others have. It's directly related to our development using OPCUA and we are curious of any fixes/solutions/progress.

    Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following questions:

    1. If the Windows device which should sent MDNS query was used wired network adapter, whether the MDNS broadcast can be seen on the other devices?
    2. “But when I change some properties in the windows system-settings for the wifi card suddenly I can see the queries also on other devices but only for a short time.” In this scenario, may I know what kind of properties of the wifi network adapter did you change?
    3. If the Windows device which should sent MDNS query can access to Internet with the wireless network adapter?
    4. You could try to disable windows firewalls to test if the issue can be resolved.
    5. Is there any 3rd party antivirus software which may block the traffic from the application layer? If yes, please try to disable the 3rd party antivirus software to test if the issue can be resolved.

    Hi,

    1) I see this problem only with the wifi adapter
    2) It doesn't matter "e.g. QoS Packet Scheduler or File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks"
    3) No it is connected to a accesspoint without internet connection
    4) firewall is disabled
    5) no anti virus is enabled
