Need to remove a Microsoft Account from "Choose an account" options in Edge

Greetings,

I need some assistance. I have an issue where I'm given multiple choices to log into a site that only has one option to login with.

My setup. I'm using the new Edge. I have a personal profile, a work profile, and a profile specifically for dynamics 365. This setup is identical (as far as I can tell) at home but the difference is on my d365 profile at work its continually asking me to use my work account or my d365 account while at home it knows I can only use the d365 account to log in.

Normally this isn't an issue, just choose the account you want and move on. However, in d365 its an issue. It seems as its trying to use my work account over my d365 account and therefore begins to continually prompt me to log in because my work account doesn't have the credentials to access d365. At home, where there is only one on the account choosing prompt, I do not get the issue of constant login prompts.

SO far I've uninstalled Edge via windows uninstaller and restarted. I've used revo uninstaller as well, with a reboot. I've cleared cookies and cache and I cannot get the duplicate account to stop popping up. I've removed the d365 account and re-added to no avail.

Removing the account from my windows email & accounts isn't an option. I know the setup will work as it works on my personal machine at home.

Please help!

I think such work account belongs to an organization and can only be deleted in email & accounts. As you says email & accounts is not an option, you can sign out the profile as a workaround. When you sign out the profile, it will ask you to sign in like this. Then you can sign in with the account you want. Or you can try to remove the profile which having problem and made a new one to see if the issue still persists.

I've since moved on from the company where this was the issue so I'll close this as I can no longer test any potential solutions. Thanks to everyone for their help!

@DSPatrick

Thanks for your quick reply. I have removed the unwanted credential, restarted the machine, and still have the prompt to login with both accounts. Any other ideas good sir?

Should have worked, I'd just make sure you've signed out before removing the account. Some other things to look at here.

@DSPatrick

I feel like your answer would be correct in almost every sense except in this case I cannot get it to work. I went so far as to delete all browsing data at close, from cookies to saved passwords, deleted all the web credentials. I'm at a loss. I appreciate your help though!

Hi i was having the same issue as you and found a "workaround" for most part of it.

First sign in to https://login.microsoftonline.com, using the credential you wanna remove
Then click on your user in the upper left corner, and choose sign-out
After doing this you will see in the next page a button "FORGET THIS ACCOUNT"

And after clicking it its done, the only MS Site i can't remove that account in my case is in the aka.ms/mfasetup, the others are now clean with the workaround

Hi dbenas,

Thanks for the reply! I followed your steps, chose to forget the account I didn't want and I still get prompted for both accounts.

I think its something to do with multiple edge profiles but I have yet to find a solution.

Thanks!

This worked for me. But I didn't have to Forget this account.
Just regular sign out worked.

To remove an account from Edge maybe that account should be removed from the PC. Navigate to Accounts in Settings and remove the additional accounts or the ones you would like to remove. Please check if this fixes your problem.

Hi Vignesh,

Thanks for this suggestion, however, I need multiple MS accounts on my machine.

These login options are cached somewhere because until you log in the first time with one they do not appear.

Even though this post is closed wanted to share the working solution for this question. In order to remove the account as mentioned in the original question follow below steps:
1. Go To "Setting"
2. Click "Accounts"
3. From the Navigation Pane to the left click on "Access Work or School" (it may take few secs to load the screen)
4. From the list of available Microsoft accounts select the one you want to remove
5. After selecting the account you will see button "Disconnect" click on it
6. Click "Yes" on the prompt to remove this account

Thats it! i have tried this option and it works. Just relaunch the Edge browser after performing above steps.
