I have a windows 2012 R2 server on which i want to connect an external HDD i have with bitlocker protection enabled.

When i connect it to the server it is showing but even i have entered the correct password or correct recovery key its not accepting.

I have installed Bitlocker already in the server using add or remove features and restarted the same.

I have tried connecting the same HDD in another system and am able to enter the drive using the password.

What could be the issue, is the server need to be updated to latest patches?

I have checked in Events but couldnt find any entries related to this.

Please help me here.

    Hi,

Thank you for your question and reaching out.

I understand that you're having issues with accessing your external HDD when connected to your Windows 2012 R2 Server. Just to confirm, do you have important files on that external HDD? Because if not, you can resolve the problem with the BitLocker by cleaning the HDD. To do so, click on your Start menu and type Command prompt then right-click on it and select Run as administrator.

Once the elevated command prompt appeared, type the commands one-at-a-time and hit Enter each time:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (change the # sign to the assigned number for the HDD)
    CLEAN
    EXIT

Once the command prompt is gone, restart your Windows 2012 R2 Server and see if you can already connect the HDD properly without getting the BitLocker issue.

I found a bug in windows 10 and it concerns exactly the same thing. PIN code login breaks the recovery partition password if the any user account is processed or edited or created. The password or pin code is not valid in the recovery partition. I highly doubt that Microsoft will not fix this bug. I wonder why the pin code login was brought to windows, if it is already a broken and realy bucky feature. After logging in with a password and editing user accounts, the problem with the recovery partition password is fixed. So the whole problem is a realy buggy PIN login feature.
