PDF won't open in Edge after clicking on the PDF file link.

My company site is hosted in an Azure cloud server. My link is correct in Acrobat. It is Edge since it works properly in other browsers.

I won't show my exact domain, but I will display my relative link path here:

OPERA, FIREFOX, CHROME display my URL path:
Process/environmental-health-and-safety/3_3-Safety/Step-Descriptions/1-Process-Improvements/3-3-1-6.pdf

IE EDGE
Process/environmental-health-and-safety/3_3-Safety/Flow-Chart/3.3%20Safety/2.%20Process%20Design/2b.%20Step%20Descriptions/1%20-%20Process%20Improvements/3-3-1-6.pdf

Edge adds weird characters and writes a longer URL to each link tab, making the URL unable to find a PDF.

The Adobe Community stated that there is plenty of evidence online that Edge could be better with an embedded link. I have tested the file by cutting a shorter URL and using the Adobe Acrobat extension without success. Is there a solution to fix my issue?

Furthermore, does this have anything to do with the Azure server?

Could you please show us how to reproduce this issue? IMO, the URL in IE/Edge is simply not indicating the same location of those in other browsers. It has 3 more parent folders. Also, %20 here represents a space in the directory name. Please check whether you can see any space among those folder names.

There are no spaces whatsoever. I can open it in Chrome, Opera and Firefox, but Edge browser is experiencing it differently

Hi @Sam Mah ,

Would you please restore Edge settings at Settings --> Reset settings --> Restore settings to their default values
Or perform a re-installation if possible?

I reset the settings, and it does not solve it.
The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

The destination file did not remove.
Edge opened the first PDF file and now the link tab. I clicked on this PDF where Edge rewrote the URL path longer, making it unable to find the PDF.

I tested it again on Firefox and clicked on the same tab, and Firefox opened a PDF file in the Window tab, which IE Edge did not do.

The destination link to this PDF worked if I reset it to download in the Edge setting. How come this link worked if making it to download, not opening in the Windows tab?

If Edge can successfully download the PDF, it means that Edge should have no difficulty in navigation. Here're some suggestions:

Clear cache of the website. You can simply use Ctrl+Shift+R.

Please confirm whether you have folders named "Flow-Chart" or "Process-Design" elsewhere.

Please check whether you have any malicious software installed.

If clearing cache does not solve this problem and you don't have any malicious software, please re-install Edge.

As to Azure side, please check whether you have any "URL rewrite rules" in the config files. I may not be able to provide more information regarding it because I'm not familiar with Azure cloud server.

A tip:
If you select to download the PDF file in Edge and Edge is your default PDF reader at the same time, you can automatically open PDF files in Edge. This may workaround this issue.

I hit cache many times, and this does nothing.

I have multiple folders named "Flow-Chart." It looks like Edge does not understand this folder structure or something. Each tab link is tested and opened as a PDF in Firefox.

I reinstalled Edge, and this does not solve it.

I didn't see the URL rewrite rules on the web.config. I brought this up because I named my video with a hyphen, which caused the video not to play. When I renamed it with an underscore, the video started to play. Can you reach out to your Azure colleague with this issue?

Regarding your tip, I set it to download and Edge, my default browser. It did not open PDF files in Edge; it actually opened with Adobe Acrobat.

I have shared your information with one of the Azure Team members. He thinks it is a compatibility issue with Edge, which I also agree with. However, I'm unable to reproduce this issue, and those workarounds seem not to work at all. So, I think the best way to dig deeper and resolve this issue is to open a support ticket here. Try Below options.

Clear Browser Cache in Microsoft Edge

Check PDF Documents Settings in Microsoft Edge

Choose Edge as the Default App for Opening PDF Files

Repair Microsoft Edge

Reset Microsoft Edge

This must solve the issue

I had a similar problem. I couldn't view or download my monthly statements from the bank. I finally found out that it was due to the "Edge Translate" extension. I deactivated the extension and everything went back to normal.
