I am an administrator managing the Microsoft 365 Defender portal. Do I need a certain level of Microsoft 365 license for the account I use to sign in to the portal to do the job or Microsoft 365 Business Basic is good enough?

    Hi Woody,

you need an assigend role https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/defender/m365d-permissions?view=o365-worldwide

There is no license needed at all for the administrator account just the approbiate directory role with the permissions.

If you want to recive defender notifications in that account you will need to assign a license with a mailbox type for sure.

Hope that did help with your question. Please give it an upvote and accept it as answer if it did resolve everything.

    Hi Woody,

you just need to assign the approbiate roles to that account for managing defender. There are no Licenses needed. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/defender/m365d-permissions?view=o365-worldwide

I would suggest adding a license to this special administrator account if you want to get notifications from the defenders into that account mailbox.

I hope this information helps you resolves the questions.
