Manageing Hyper-V 2019 Server Issues

Hello,

I am trying to connect a hyper-v manager installed on a server 2016 to a hyper-v 2019 bare metal installed server.

I joined the hyper-v 2019 server to the domain, and can see the server object under the domain. I can connect to the server using remote desktop, but I cannot connect to it from the 2016 Hyper-v server.

I keep getting this error "An error occurred while attempting to connect to server check that the virtual machine management service is running and that you are authorized to connect to the server".

Reviewing several posts of a similar issue, but only a hyper-v install on either a core or minimal install of server 2016, it looks like I need power shell on the bare bones 2019 server. However, power shell is not installed, and I have been unable to find a way to install it.

I thought installing a bare metal 2019 hyper-v server was the way to go, but now I am not sure. I would hate to have to install the server 2019 OS then hyper-v on top of it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mark

The Admin Center may be another option.

Hi DSPatrick,

Thank you for the advise. I installed the admin center on the win svr 2016, but still could not access the hyper-v 2019 server. I installed the admin center directly on the hyper-v svr, and things started to look good. I could access the hyper-v svr from server 2016, but keep getting different errors along the way. Cleaned up most of the errors by installing packages on the hyper-v svr.

I am now building a CentOS 8 VD on the hyper-v svr now.

Thanks for the advice again. You answered by basic question, and got me going.'

Why is it a problem to install Server 2019 with the Hyper-V role installed on top of it?

Im not sure I fully understand the problem here - but you are facing issues with management of your Hyper-V 2019 Server from a Server 2016 - correct?

I dont know if this is sort of the same issues I've been facing with Management of Failover Clustering from a Server 2016, towards a Server 2019 Hyper-V Failover Cluster - but in the case, I solved my issue when I decomissioned my RDS 2016, and deployed a new RDS 2019 - I guess the management tools should be equal in terms of version 2016/2019.

Dont know if this information is usefull :)
