can't login to Xbox (Windows 10 App)

I installed the new Xbox App on my Windows 10 Pro and it won't let me log in.

No specific error code is given! I put in my credentials it refers me to my authenticator app where i put in the appropriate inputs it then asks me whether i want to use this to logon everywhere on my device or just in microsoft apps.

If i try to click "just in apps" it sends me into a logon loop inside the xbox app and if i opt for the other selection i get a nondescript error message.

here's what this amounts to.     while the problem persisted through sevel reboots and shutdowns of the PC in question. Today after boot up login wo the live account was possible normally. the problem "fixed itself" but i don't know what went on.
