Azure VM and GPOs

Hi All ,

I have a VM in Azure , also Azure AD connect is configured so the Azure VM object is on AD on-prems.

My question is : will this VM in Azure get group policies from the on-perms Domain controller ?

Yes, Azure VM that is domain joined to an On-Prem Active Directory domain would be able to pull GPOs from the On-Prem Active Directory Domain Controllers. Group Policies would get applied on this just like a normal server in the On-Prem AD Domain.

We need to make sure that the Azure VM should be able to speak to a DC without any network issues and that would get the Group Policy objects flowing from the DC to the Azure VM.

Hello @Immer · Welcome to QnA platform and thank you for your query.

Yes, when an Azure VM is joined to On-premises Active Directory domain and the VM is successfully able to communicate with the on-premises domain controller via P2S or S2S vpn connection for example, all Group Policies created in that domain gets applied to the VM.
