Sharepoint 2016 support for .NET framework 4.8?

Does MS support .NET framework 4.8 on SP 2016 servers?

Last thing I see of this type is for 4.7 a couple years ago: https://blog.stefan-gossner.com/2017/06/19/sharepoint-20132016-and-net-framework-4-7/

Thanks

Hi @scogordo-2057,

Something here might help:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/faq/dotnet-framework

The .NET Framework is also middleware in other Microsoft products such as Exchange Server, SQL Server, Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, and Lync. Do I need to make any updates to these products if they are using .NET 4, 4.5, or 4.5.1?
Newer versions of products such as Exchange, SQL Server, Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, and Lync are based on the .NET Framework 4 or .NET Framework 4.5. The .NET Framework 4.5.2 and later versions are compatible, in-place updates on top of the .NET Framework 4, 4.5, and 4.5.1. This means that an application, such as Exchange, built using the .NET Framework 4 or 4.5 will continue to run without any changes when the .NET runtime is updated from .NET Framework 4, 4.5, or 4.5.1 to later versions. That said we recommend customers validate their deployments by updating the .NET runtime to .NET 4.5.2 or later in a pre-production environment first before rolling out a newer version in the production environment.

yes, it will support .Net framework 4.8. But for you to configure SharePoint 2016 on a server then the Prerequisite is Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.6.

Thanks. SP16 is already installed and configured and humming along for some time. Is there any MS documentation of 4.8 support?

There doesn't seem to be any documentation stating this, but if you look at what I quoted they say "The .NET Framework 4.5.2 and later versions are compatible".

Unfortunately, there isn't any proper documentation. If you have SharePoint already installed then you can simply upgrade your .Net framework version to latest via WSUS there shouldn't be any problem.

Thanks all. Heard back from Stefan.

Hi Scott,

.NET 4.8 was released April 2019 if there would be any issues those would have come up.

And there are no reported issues.

Cheers,

Stefan

Can't say I feel super warm and fuzzy without it being in official documentation, but probably the best I'll get?

Software requirements in this article are minimum requirements.
And .NET Framework 4.5 and later versions are backward-compatible with apps that were built with earlier versions of the .NET Framework. In other words, apps and components built with previous versions will work without modification on the .NET Framework 4.5 and later versions. However, by default, apps run on the version of the common language runtime for which they were developed, so you may have to provide a configuration file to enable your app to run on the .NET Framework 4.5 or later versions. For more information, see the Version compatibility for apps section earlier in this article.-------From .Net FrameWork Version compatibility
So SharePoint 2016 should support .Net Framework 4.8.
