Is Azure AD Connect still supported for Windows Server 2012 R2?

Is there a version of Azure AD Connect that is currently supported and compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2?

Currently, version 1.6.16.0 is installed and fails to update to version 2.x and the service fails to start.

Microsoft states "Therefore, we retire older versions of Azure AD Connect on 29 February 2024. On that date versions published before 5 May 2018 (version 1.1.751.0 and older) will be retired. " here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/updates/please-upgrade-your-azure-ad-connect-sync-to-a-newer-version-by-29-february-2024/

So 1.6.16.0 should be supported past 2024. However, Microsoft also says "Any versions older than Azure AD Connect 2.x are currently deprecated." meaning 1.6.16.0 is already out of date. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/hybrid/how-to-upgrade-previous-version

So is there a version of Azure AD Connect 1.x that is still supported? Is there a version that still works on 2012 R2?

    Hi

no, see article below - Windows Server 2016 is the earliest version supported, and as this is in extended support it recommended to use Domain-Joined Windows Server 2022:

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks
