Is PowerShell 3.0 or 4.0 compatible with SharePoint 2010?

I need to upgrade from PowerShell 2.0 and wanted to make sure 3.0 or 4.0 is compatible with SharePoint 2010

No. The snapin for SharePoint Server 2010 is only compatible with PowerShell 2.0.

See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2796733/sharepoint-2010-management-shell-does-not-load-with-windows-powershell.

As far was I know SharePoint 2010 is not compatible with PowerShell 3.0 or 4.0.

But there is a workaround available:
