Is capturing events in Parquet using stream analytics job costs extra on top of standard $73/TU/Month in Event Hub Standard Tier?

Hello People,

I am working with Azure Event Hubs to pull data stream and capture it in Parquet format. Parquet is most suitable for my solution.

I am using a standard tier Event Hub Namespace with 2 TU with capture enabled on Event Hub. As per the documentation capture in Standard Tier costs $73/TU/Month in US East location.

By default capture puts files in AVRO and since I am capturing it in Parquet, I am using a stream analytics job with capture to do so. Since stream analytics is mandatory for Parquet (capture leads you to stream analytics job configuration pane), does it incur extra cost for stream analytics for capturing in parquet format or is it included in umbrella cost of $73/TU/Month regardless of which format we are using capture.

The cost of using Stream Analytics to capture data in Parquet format from Azure Event Hubs depends on the pricing tier you choose for Stream Analytics. Stream Analytics offers two pricing tiers: Standard and Premium.

If you choose the Standard pricing tier, you will be charged based on the number of Streaming Units (SUs) you provision. The cost of using Stream Analytics in the Standard pricing tier is $0.034 per SU per hour. You can provision up to 200 SUs in the Standard pricing tier.

If you choose the Premium pricing tier, you will be charged based on the number of SUs you provision and the amount of data processed. The cost of using Stream Analytics in the Premium pricing tier is $0.68 per SU per hour plus $0.034 per million events processed. You can provision up to 100 SUs in the Premium pricing tier.

Regardless of which pricing tier you choose, the cost of using Stream Analytics to capture data in Parquet format from Azure Event Hubs is in addition to the cost of using Event Hubs capture. The cost of using Event Hubs capture is $73 per TU per month in the US East region.

So, to summarize, if you are using Stream Analytics to capture data in Parquet format from Azure Event Hubs, you will be charged for both the Event Hubs capture and the Stream Analytics usage. The cost of Stream Analytics usage depends on the pricing tier you choose.
