Windows Updates Kill Print-To-PDF-Function (KB4574727, KB4565351, KB4571709)

Hello,

for three months now, after installing Windows Updates, one cannot use any print-to-pdf-features. After uninstalling the updates (KB4574727, KB4565351, KB4571709), it works again. While the updates are installed, neither Microsoft PDF Printer, nor other PDF-Printers (such as PDF24Creator's PDF-Printer) work. The print-jobs go into the queue and one gets a message, that an error has accoured. The print-jobs stay in the queue. SAVING as PDF still works, PRINTING as PDF doesn't. Of Course, uninstalling security updates is not an option. So are there any Workarounds? Print-To-PDF is needed here. Not to be misunderstood: the features are not gone (Microsoft PDF Printer is still installed), they just don't work. It doesn't have anything to do with group policies, as far as I can tell.

Help would be very much appreciated. If the problem has been solved in another thread, a link would be sufficient (unfortunately this is not a good topic to search the internet, because there are far too many unrelated problems discussed).

Best regards,

Hi,

sorry for the delay (covid 19 causes a lot of work). We resolved the problem by installing a newer version of pdf24 and by disabling the microsoft print to pdf feature. The solution provided here was just about fixing the microsoft print to pdf feature, but as I wrote, all pdf-printers didn't work anymore after installing the windows-updates.

Best regards,

Hello @OneFineAdmin-4083

Here is a thread for your reference:

In addition, you may try below workarounds:
1. Update drivers manually, and restart your computer;

2.Right-click on the Microsoft print-to-pdf, select troubleshoot. Click on view detailed info from troubleshoot, and check what's the issue found;

3.Find Event Viewer >Applications and Services> Microsoft> Windows> PrintService, enable operational log (here I have already enabled), reproduce the problem again, check is there error message.

Thank you very much for your input. I will check that out. But just to clarify the problem: ALL pdf-printers are broken after installing the update, not just Microsoft PDF. Even third-party-pdf-printers (like pdf24creator) suddenly don't work anymore. So it's not just a problem with a printer, but the whole feature "print something as a pdf-document" is broken after installing these updates. Uninstalling helps; after uninstalling, ALL pdf-printers work again. Cheers.
