When can we expect Azure Monitor Agent for Debian 12?

I've successfully connected my on-premises server to the cloud using Azure Connected Machine Agent (Azure Arc). My primary goal was to collect syslogs from this server, so I created a Data Collection Rule for this purpose. The Data Collection Rule attempted to install the Azure Monitor Agent, but the installation process terminated with an 'unsupported OS' error. You can find the error message in the Machine Azure Arc / Extensions section. After checking the list of supported OS versions, I discovered that Debian 12 is not currently supported. My main question is when we can expect the Azure Monitor Agent to support Debian 12?

Béla Lemle As of today, the current ETA for Azure Monitor Agent to support Debian 12 is Dec 2023.

Update Feb 8 : Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we've had to adjust our timeline. Tentatively, the new release date is now set for April 2024. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

Update April 24: Support for Debian 12 for public clouds will be in early May 2024.

Versions 1.29.5 has just released but Debian 12 is still not supported... Please let us know when this will be supported.

I have done some testing and from what i can see, this is just a case of the agent having its check updated to allow the package to install on version 12.

I have managed to get this to install, on a non production server for testing, and so far its all fine. If you want me to share what I did I can, but I would not recommend doing so on a production environment until you have done your own testing, and will take no responsibility if there are issues.

It will be due to the use of systemd-journal?

This is a problem because Debian 12 is available in the Market, but AMA cannot be used. One hopes for the compatibility of the extensions.

Just to reiterate, this is in no way supported obviously. But the work around on the test servers i wanted to get some additional metrics on. update the file /etc/os-release and replace VERSION_ID="12" with VERSION_ID="11" Push the extension out ( i did it without auto updates ) once the agent has installed. change your /etc/os-release back to show VERSION_ID="12" Again, im not sure if there are any items of the agent that do not work. but the test machine I have configured this way, has been stable and is reporting performance metrics that i wanted to see.
