Help with scom migrate from 2012 to 2019

hey friends ,

i have few questions about SCOM migration .

1)i am now using scom 2012 and i am about to install 2019 (side by side)
i want to know in which order i need to start my new environment .
first install agents and then import my mp from 2012 ?

and what about :
Accounts and profiles ? do i need to re create them in the 2019 ?
same thing with DA , User roles and Resource pools.

2) another question is about GW - i have few GW of 2012 , if i upgrade them to 2016 they will work with my 2019 new environment ?

3) in my 2019 environment i want to install 2016 agents , what do i have to do that my 2019 scom will know to install the 2016 agent and not the 2019 Agent ?

best regards .

Hi @matanalter-4296,

Import your management packs, then migrate your agents to your SCOM 2019 environment by installing them.

and what about :
Accounts and profiles ? do i need to re create them in the 2019 ?
same thing with DA , User roles and Resource pools.

You'll need to recreate them, the good thing is that you will have your old existing SCOM 2012 environment which you can take the examples from (note however that if you've configured/created anything "badly" or in a wrong way, be careful not to do the same mistakes in your new SCOM 2019 environment.

2) another question is about GW - i have few GW of 2012 , if i upgrade them to 2016 they will work with my 2019 new environment ?

SCOM 2016 can coexist with a SCOM 2019 environment, so yes it will work (Supported coexistence).

3) in my 2019 environment i want to install 2016 agents , what do i have to do that my 2019 scom will know to install the 2016 agent and not the 2019 Agent ?

You can install the SCOM 2016 agents manually, or automate it with SCCM/scripting or any automation tool.

Here's a great check list made by Kevin, you can also use it for your upgrade to SCOM 2019:
