Managed Google Private Apps Not Auto Updating On Dedicated Android Devices

Good Day Everyone,

I am facing a situation where Dedicated Kiosk Android devices are not automatically updating Private Apps from the Managed Google Play store.

After uploading the new .apk to the Managed Google Play store the devices pull the update down and report that an update is ready to install in the Google Play app, but wait for user intervention to install. I can confirm that the devices are set to auto-update, and there is a Configuration Policy that also says to auto-update applications "Always", but that only seems to apply at the work profile level.

Does anyone have guidance?

Thanks!
Tony

Up to 10 attachments (including images) can be used with a maximum of 3.0 MiB each and 30.0 MiB total.

Need to dig this out as I wonder if this has been ever resolved or is it worth to open a ticket with Intune Support?

Again the error:
Android Enterprise dedicated Kiosk devices and Android Enterprise Corporate-owned, fully managed user devices.
I noticed the same behaviour.

We publish in-house developed Android application into the private Play Store.
The is made available and on both devices in the Google Play store I can see that the update is now available, but it doesn't automatically update.
The application is deployed in Intune to "All Devices"

We also have Android for Work devices, and interestingly they seem to update faster.
Considering that AfW is a BYOD solution and Android Enterprise is the corporate solution - I would have expected that AE devices will have priority over BYOD?

Thanks :)

Generally speaking, when assigning a new private app, the device will sync the status with Intune every 8 hours. At any time, users can open the Company Portal app, Settings > Sync to immediately check for policy or profile updates.

Reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/configuration/device-profile-troubleshoot#how-long-does-it-take-for-devices-to-get-a-policy-profile-or-app-after-they-are-assigned

From the device side, please do the following recommendations to let updates automatically done.
1. Recommended: Turn on Auto-Updates within the Google Play store, this will ensure that you always have the latest version on your device.
2. Ensure your notifications are turned on for Google Play Store to let you know when your app needs to be updated.

Thanks for the infomation, however:

  • The tablets have been online and checking in with Intune for more than 72+ hours

  • When I do break the tablets out of Dedicated Single-app Kiosk mode and check the Google play store, it reports an update to the app has been downloaded, and ready to install. But does not automatically install it.

  • The tablets are deployed in Deditcated Single-app Kiosk mode, and so my goal is to have no user-interaction at all to update apps

  • Auto-updates are enabled in the Google Play app

Thanks so much for your reply, but my specific problem is: my Dedicated Android tablets running in Single-app kiosk mode download app updates, however do not automatically install them. The app is is a Private app being served up by the Managed Google Play store.

Thanks,
Tony

Based on my deeper research, for private apps written in-house (line-of-business), Update needs to be done manually, as organization creates and provides you with updates as a separate file.
