Convert VMWare Workstation VM (or OVF) to Hyper-V (on Windows 10)

Hello,

I currently have a virtual lab running on VMWare Workstation 15. I would like to convert this over to Hyper-V, running on Windows 10.

I see there is a utility call Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter (MVMC). I tried using this but it only seems to want to convert from VSphere/VCenter to Hyper-V. There is no mention of OVF and this utility looks like it is deprecated.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Angelo

Convert it to VHD, then you can import it on your hyper-v

After reviewing the description on Microsoft, this utility is for converting a physical machine to a virtual. It is not for converting a VMWare-based HD to a Hyper-V VHD. Unless there is something I am missing.

Hi,

Microsoft provides an OVF Import/Export tool as part of System Center 2012’s Virtual Machine Manager add-on.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/archive/blogs/chengw/system-center-2012-vmm-ovf-export-import-tool-is-available-now

Thanks for your time!
Best Regards,
Anne

Looks like the 2012 version has been deprecated (or at least is no longer supported) and that it offered under the System Center umbrella. I think that means that you either need and SA or have to pay for it. Is that correct? I am using this for my home lab so I would prefer something free, or better yet, already included in the Hyper-V.

It seems like there should be a built-in utility in Windows 10 Hyper-V or there should be a free utility from Microsoft.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Angelo

or there should be a free utility from Microsoft.

MVMC is no longer available but search for the various V2V tools available from third party.

Hey genius. He is trying to convert vmware to hyper-v. Diskt2vhd only converts physical disks to vhd.

Hey SuperGenius,

V2V is for vmware to hyperv conversions ... so what DSPatrick wrote is correct.
