I am trying to activate my E5 Tenant, but when I add my Swedish mobile number to receive the code for verification, I get the error message: We can't continue with the signup process for the following reason:

  • Your phone number did not pass security checks.

We are piloting a new verification process now and hope to roll it out in the next two-three weeks on the site or sooner. After joining the program, this new process allows customers to request a tenant, go through a validation process, and then receive an invitation. We'll announce when we roll this process out on the blog. Your frustration, your desire to leverage the program for learning and development, the urgency - we hear it. We feel it in our guts. We are working as quickly as we can to get things working for you.

I see you have changed the wording of the error message we get when trying the phone numbers to an even more vague one. Here's a thought, why not just put up a message saying "access to the free Microsoft 365 E5 subscription is currently paused for the short-term while we adjust the qualifications for that benefit" and not let people go through the application process in the first place? Far be it from Microsoft to actually give out a sensible error message that people understand but maybe this once, you could try and use some common sense.

We're sorry to hear that you are having issues joining the developer program.

    Country-specific outages

We recently had some service issues and many countries were temporarily blocked from joining. This issue has resolved but note the following: Geographic limitations. For technical and security reasons, the Microsoft 365 Developer Program only supports a subset of countries/regions listed here: Microsoft 365 International Availability. We review our supported country list regularly. If you are unable to sign up from your country or region, then it means we do not support it at this time.

    Membership benefits

While you can still join the developer program, access to the free Microsoft 365 E5 subscription is currently paused for the short-term while we adjust the qualifications for that benefit. To stay apprised of changes, please follow our blog.

This is beyond disappointing! I live in Canada. I've had a hotmail account for over 20 years and I still use it to create my desktop profiles when buy a new windows machine. I tried signing up for a developer account using my hotmail address and it kept throwing an error and wouldnt complete. So I created a brand new 365 account and tried signing up for the dev account, only to get this BS. Why, Oh why!!

Just a thought. How is that helping you to promote Fabric? There is no option for Fabric individual account, apparently there are so many safeguards that it is becoming difficult to offer a dev program. I was hoping to learn and see if I can offer it for use at work. Lost hours researching the errors, called my cell company to ask if there is a problem with my phone number, and finally I ended up here... Frustrating!
