Exchange Hybrid: cannot migrate Mailbox saying local ex server: refused to connect

Hi There,

I have been moving mailboxes to online exchange successfully in the past.

In the morning, I was asked to move an old legacy mailbox to Exchange online, I just found out when I click on Move Mailbox: To exchange online, sign in to Office 365. It gave me a blank page saying: Ex01 (local ex server) refused to connect.

Do you know why?

Thanks
ML

Where do you try to create this migration request? As far as I know, there doesn't exist a step to "sign into Office 365"

I would suggest you try to rerun HCW to check whether there exists issue in your organization. Then, login Exchange online admin center , then check whether the migration endpoint exist.

Here is an article about how to migrate mailbox in hybrid, it may be useful to you: Move mailboxes between on-premises and Exchange Online organizations in hybrid deployments

Hi Kyle,

I did a "mailbox Move to Exchange on Exchange" online. It moved the mailbox successfully.

Still when going online exchange ECP, and click on Office 365 and Enterprise, it said "Exch01 refused to connect."

Anything due to security change?

Thanks
ML

Login from Exchange online admin center directly. The switch from on-premises to Office 365 isn't suggested.

Hi,

Please provide us with the Exchange server version and the type of migration. Also, check whether any changes made on the network firewall to block incoming/outgoing communication between the Exchange server and Office365.

Exchange 2016. Online Exchange.

I did a migration from local ECP, and move mailbox to cloud. It used to be working fine....

I actually noticed that I can find the local mailbox from the online Exchange "Remote Move Migration" as well. SHould I give a go from online directly?

It is just confusing now....The top of the page says Enterprise and Office 365. After logged in to the mail ECP, when clicked on Office 365, it took me to Online Exchange, and then click on Enterprise to get back to local Exchange web interface, it said: ex01 refused to connect...Does this remind you about anything? Security permission changed? or Security policies change trigger this? I cannot see anything in Event log..

Thanks
ML

Hi,

Are you able to login to Exchange Online from a different server and try to move the mailbox?
Does the account you are using to login to ECP is having the permissions on Office365? or different accounts?
Do you have chrome installed on the Exchange server?

What is the CU installed. Try updating to CU16 or latest for Exchange 2016 and check,

I'm facing the exact same scenario and would love to find a fix.

The same problem here. Tried Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Opera - private/non private. Tried different network, and different device. Enabled pop ups and redirecting, allowed cookies for [.]office.net,[.]live.com,[*.]microsoftonline.com. The problem still persists.

A new build version of Exchange admin center has been released and the mailbox migration location has changed.

Click on '' New Exchange Admin Center'' at the left menu list of exchange admin center then select migration
