Thank you for your feedback.
So your issue is in the client downloading process not the deployment process.
You may check DataTransferService.log and CAS.log in client for more details.
And make sure you have selected all the languages you are using for the Office updates:

@JONASO
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.
Could you please provide more details about your issue?
Did you mean that the download stopped at 50%? You may check the PatchDownloader.log, it records details about the process of downloading software updates from the update source to the download destination on the site server. For automatic deployment rules, if the Configuration Manager client is installed on the site server, this file is on the site server in %windir%\CCM\Logs.

I am experiencing the same error code 0x80200061 when the O365 patches are applied during OS Deployment phase. If I let the computer to install only with Windows updates, it will pass, but not with the Office. We are on SCCM 2010.

We were seeing this issue in our environment having recently switched over to updating 365 via SCCM.

Traced the issue back to registry keys from the original Office install. The problematic key in our case was "UpdateToVersion" located at Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration.

It seemed that despite pushing the latest version via SCCM. This key would cause the update process to try and download the version specified which would then fail as it couldn't find the files.

After deleting the key the update would succeed on next try.

Good to hear. We do not have that key. I guess we have to wait and see what MS broke again like last year.

Tried language section changes in the ADR but no luck.

Any other suggestions to try?

Edit :

Never mind figured it out solution was ; correct language definement in the Office 365 ADR rule.
Re downloaded language patches and updated package on DP'es. Reran the TS and issue is solved

Hi All,

I am glad to see this is not just our environment.

Our O365 Client Updates are managed by MECM and for the last few months we have very low success due to error 0x80200061. It's not a language pack issue as all of the devices have the default "en-us".

We do not have registry key "UpdateToVersion" set either :-(

The odd thing is some devices do complete the update all be it very small numbers so that confirms the MECM process works.

Any ideas \ support would be great.

Many Thanks

We're seeing the same error on about 10% of our machines. No additional languages, no ADR. The AlternateHandler.log keep repeating "timer cookie not recognized" and I can't find any additional info on it. Very frustrating.

Recently had a case open on this and was told its a known issue (but not written up yet). Key facts related to the known issue:
- 0x80200061
- AlternateHandler.log keeps repeating "timer cookie not recognized"
- BITS is enabled
- Language is en-us
- UpdateToVersion in registry irrelevant, happens on fresh builds too
- SCCM 2010 + KB4600089
- On machines where this happens the files will eventually download but at deadline time instead of between available and deadline
- Also this issue can have a cascade effect if there are other deployments trying to download on the same machine with O365, meaning the other deployments can be delayed too

engineer suggested turning off BITS but that is not possible for us

VERY curious if BITS is a common factor among others with this issue, please comment if your situation matches the above and whether you are using BITS or not.

We are seeing same symptoms in our environment , and turning BITS off is not an option, we have delivery optimization enabled as well, please update once you hear if this "known issue " gets documented please. It is very annoying that it can back other deployments up especially when as it is our case there are thousands of devices exhibiting this behavior.

Hey Folks,

I have made progress on this issue by changing the two settings below,

1 - Client Settings > Disabling Branch Cache
2 - Client Settings > Allow BITS downloads outside the throttling window: Yes

After changing the above my compliance for M365 Updates deployed by Configuration Manager has shot right up :-)

Thanks
