Windows 11 VM missing task bar

I installed a Windows 11 Pro HYPERV VM on a machine running Windows 11 Pro. When I started it and connected, the task bar was missing. I read that a Windows security update started the problem, and the VM starts up using the guest account, which doesn't have access to the task bar. I cannot do anything except pause the VM which shows in the second screenshot that it is running. I installed Windows 11 Pro on another new Dell computer (both machines are Dell laptops) and it worked just fine. Any ideas? Please note that the first attachment is just the background of the Windows VM, and the second attachment is time and date with my user picture after pressing the pause button.

It seems that the taskbar is missing in your Windows 11 Pro Hyper-V virtual machine. One possible reason for this could be that the VM starts up using the guest account, which doesn't have access to the taskbar. To fix this, you can try logging in with an administrator account and see if the taskbar appears. If that doesn't work, you can try resetting the virtual machine to its default settings or reinstalling the operating system.

It's also worth noting that the issue could be caused by a Windows security update. In that case, you may need to check for and install any available updates for both the host and guest operating systems.

Unfortunately, without more information or access to the virtual machine, it's difficult to determine the exact cause of the issue.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Based on the situation you described, you installed a Windows 11 Pro HYPER-V virtual machine on a computer running Windows 11 Pro, but upon startup, you found that the taskbar disappeared. According to what you said, this may be due to a security update on Windows that caused the virtual machine to start as a guest account, which does not have access to the taskbar. You tried to pause the virtual machine and found that it is running.

To address this issue, you can try the following solutions:

Start virtual machine with administrator privileges: Try starting the virtual machine with administrator privileges to see if it can solve the problem of the taskbar disappearing.

Check virtual machine settings: Ensure that sufficient resources are allocated to the virtual machine in its settings and that there are no special restrictions or configurations that may cause the taskbar to disappear.

Attempt to reset virtual machine configuration: Try resetting the virtual machine configuration to default settings, and then restart the virtual machine to see if it can solve the problem.

Update virtual machine integration services: Ensure that the integration services installed in the virtual machine are the latest version, which helps solve compatibility issues related to the host system.

Check for updates to the host system: Ensure that both the host system and virtual machine have installed the latest Windows updates, which can help address security updates that may cause compatibility issues.

If none of the above methods can solve the problem, it is recommended to try reinstalling or rebuilding the virtual machine to ensure that the system configuration is correct and necessary updates and drivers are installed.

Hope this answer can help you well.

    Best regards,

    Jill Zhou
