am having issues with Chap authentication between windows native iscsi initiator and the synology iscsi target, when i use the same chap username and password created in the Synology on the windows iscsi initiator i get a error : Login failed . But it works without the chap authentication. am literally copy pasting the credentials still login failed, tried in different windows OS still fails, i checked the Synology logs and event viewer and the just say authentication failure. could the windows iscsi initiator be adding hidden characters on username / password field or i have a bug in the chap authentication, anybody experience this ?

    Hey,

Check if you have configured permissions on your LUN on Synology.

If you have configured mutual chap, you should configure it separately.

You can also check configuration with a different iSCSI target. StarWind VSAN can be used as an alternative. https://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-virtual-san

    Hi Mwalim,

Thanks for your post. Before moving on, to narrow down this issue, can you also try creating an additional target to see if you can connect? Also, is the hypervisior VMware or Hyper-V?

Please understand that this issue occurs on the Synology software, it is suggested to contact the Synology support at first. Here is the official link: https://account.synology.com/support

Also, based on my research, when you are configuring the chap authentication between windows native iscsi initiator and the synology iscsi target, please make sure you are following the guide at first.

How to set up VMware iSCSI CHAP authentication for Synology NAS - Synology Knowledge Center

iSCSI | SAN Manager - Synology Knowledge Center

In addition, can I know if you are on DSM7? There is an update of "SAN Manager" showed up with the following changes mentioned:

    Version: 1.0.1-0197

(2021-07-19) Fixed Issues Fixed an issue where after the DSM update, datastores on LUNs may not be mounted properly when users reconnect to iSCSI targets from their VMware ESXi hosts. If you encounter the issue again, go to the VMware Knowledge Base for a resolution.

Just for your reference and hope it is helpful.

    Best Regards,

    Ian Xue
