connection issue with virtual machine

Hello, I originally asked this question within Microsoft Communities and was directed here by staff.

I recently upgraded to Windows 11Pro from Windows Home to take advantage of some of the extra security and virtualization features. To this point, I seem to have installed Hyper-V successfully and subsequently installed a couple of virtual machines from ISO files. I can start the virtual machines within Hyper-V Manager and they seem to run. I can even see a little preview screen at the bottom of Hyper-V Manager. However, when I try to connect to a virtual machine within Hyper-V Manager, I receive a "Cannot connect to virtual machine" error, see attached image.

I have rebooted many times. I've stopped and restarted the service. I've disabled and enabled network adapters. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Hyper-V and it's platform. I've even changed the listening port within the registry. When I research the error, I find mostly hot-fixes for other, older specific versions of Windows Server.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    Hi @Krishna Aswin,

Thanks for contacting Microsoft Q&A platform.

It seems that you are encountering a "Cannot connect to virtual machine" error when trying to connect to a virtual machine within Hyper-V Manager. This error message can be caused by a variety of issues, including network connectivity problems, incorrect credentials, or incorrect settings in Hyper-V Manager. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1.     Ensure that the virtual machine is turned on and that you are using the correct credentials.

    2.     Check the Hyper-V Manager settings to ensure that you are connecting to the proper virtual machine.

    3.     Check your internet connection and ensure that it is stable enough to run a virtual machine.

    4.     Make sure that the host operating system is up to date.

And you also refered to that you have rebooted many times, would you mind trying to restart the two below options again?

    5.    Turn off and then turn on the virtual machine.

    6.    Try restarting your PC and see if it restores the connection.

    Hope this helps you.

    Hello,

Please check the following factors that may cause this issue.

Network connection: Ensure that the network configuration of the virtual machine is correct and that the connection to the Hyper-V server is normal.

Vm status: Ensure that the VM is started and resources (such as memory and processors) are correctly configured.

System resources: Ensure that the system resources are sufficient to support the VM running. Check whether the storage space is sufficient.

Hyper-V Setup: Enable virtualization technology in BIOS/UEFI and ensure that Hyper-V is enabled in Windows.

Firewall and security software: Ensure that firewalls and security software are not blocking access to the virtual machine.

Permissions: Ensure that the account you are using has permissions to manage Hyper-V and virtual machines.

View Event Viewer: Check for error or warning messages related to Hyper-V and virtual machines.

Updates and patches: Make sure Windows 11 Pro and Hyper-V are up to date and have all updates and patches installed.
