Hi everyone,

Good afternoon. Hope you can help. I have two 2012r2 domain controllers. The AD forest level and domain level are still in 2008r2.

With the fact provided, do you think if i can proceed with the migration from FRS to DRSR? Then I can raise the domain and forest level. If possible, may you tell which one I should raise first? The domain level or the forest level?

Thank yoU for your help in advance.

    Hello Takami Chiro,

You can continue to migrate from FRS to DFSR and then escalate at the domain and forest levels.

The recommended order is to upgrade the domain level first and then the forest level.

Domain-level upgrades typically don't affect existing domain controller functionality, but forest-level upgrades may introduce new features and improvements.

I hope the information above is helpful.

In short- yes - you should be able to proceed with the migration to DFS-R. The domain functional level needs to raised first before you raise the forest functional level (it is possible to raise both at the same time).
