Hi, I tried many times to upgrade my SCCM 2207 to SCCM 2309 on the Windows server 2022 , it is failing every time, because after upgrading to SCCM 2309, my MP does not running and is RED and I cannot start it and on the IIS I cannot see some entries like SMS_MP after Upgrade( it seems, it is deleted) , and all devices are not connected any more to the SCCM Server. I am not sure why. But I am sure the reason is my Management Point and on the IIS the SMS_MP. My Questions: is there any way to install a new Windows Server 2002 with different server name with SQL 2019 on the physical machine and restore the SCCM backup from my old server and recover it on the new machine with starting the SCCM 2309? Or I install a completely a new SCCM 2309 with Windows Server 2022( with different name as my old SCCM 2207 Server) and SQL 2022 and then import the Device Collection and Application and Package. If I select the option 2, how can I disable or delete my SCCM 2207? What is the best method to have SCCM 2309? The Upgrade does not work

Yes, you can install SQL 2019 or 2022, but the best choice is to use the same version. Note don't change the SQL Server edition. Restoring a site database from Standard edition to Enterprise edition isn't supported.

It means I choice the SQL 2017 and install it and by restoring the SCCM I can choice SCCM 2309 and after that I have the actually version 2309. Am I right?

What with my device collection and applications? have I to export it and import it? Or are all in the Backup included?

Do you a good link step by step for migration? Is the migration the best method for my environment? because my in-place upgrade does not work?

Yes, you are right.

You don't need to export and import, all are included in backup.

Site restore and migration are two different conception, you may read this great article to know the difference between migration, in-place upgrade and site restore.

I have at the Time:

Windows Server 2022, SQL 2017 and SCCM 2207

I cannot install the SQL 2019 on the new physical machine, because my current SQL version on my SCCM Server is SQL 2017. Am I right? Or can I install SQL 2019?

It means , I do a backup of my current SCCM Server. I install a new Windows Server 2022 on the new physical machine and give him the same Server name like my current SCCM Server and join the domain. ( I delete the old SCCM Server from Domain)

Install SQL Server 2017 like at current SQL Server is installed

Install all required Roles and Services, like WSUS, BTS, and.......

I run the SCCM 2309 version and select "Recover Site Server"

Is all the steps OK?

First, I'm sorry for the mistake, we cannot backup from SCCM 2207 and restore to SCCM 2309, migration support to migrate from old version to a newer version, my memory is skewed. The reason is we need to launch the restore process using the CD.Latest setup files from the old environment. So, you still need an in-place upgrade after the backup and recovery.

Then, it's support to install the SQL 2019 on the new physical machine even though it's not the best choice.

you still need an in-place upgrade, it does not work on my machine, as I wrote you, after in-place upgrade my MP on the IIS was away and MP on the SCCM was in red and no chance to repair it

Only if I use migration, I can use the new version 2309 and new SQL server version on the new machine. Yes or no? I have exactly to know, can I change my SCCM Server name and install SQL Server 2019 by migration?

Migration is the worst option for you, it will increase your workload a lot and you may encounter a lot of unexpected problems. And what will you do when the next version release, SCCM 2403, SCCM 2409?

You may try to open a support case to fix the MP issue after upgrade, here is the link of CSS support:

I know that, it is a lot of work. I can try again and run in-place upgrade the new version 2403. Can I upgrade from 2207 to 2403? I don't think so

We cannot upgrade from 2207 to 2403 directly, we can install this update 2403 on sites that run version 2211 or later.

You may upgrade 2207 to 2303 or 2309 firstly and then upgrade to 2403.
