Hello, I'm trying to install SQL 2022 for a class. Unfortunately, I'm running into an error. I've tried restarting, and I've also uninstalled/re-installed SQL but I get the same error each time. I'm on an M1 Max Macbook Pro running Sonoma 14.4.1. Using Parallels to run Win11.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Below is from the install summary:

I'm on an M1 Max Macbook Pro running Sonoma 14.4.1. Using Parallels to run Win11.

MS SQL Server is only supported on x64 processors, see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/sql-server/install/hardware-and-software-requirements-for-installing-sql-server-2019?view=sql-server-ver16

    Hi @Santiago Williams,

Thanks for your information. Running SQL Server on MAC is not an easy task. I've found an issue like yours and it provided two links to resolve this issue.

If you need to run SQL Server on a Mac with Apple Silicon, for development purposes, we recommend using a Docker container using Rosetta 2 support. While this is not a supported configuration by Microsoft Support, it will be a lot better than running SQL Server on a Windows VM and provide a far better experience.

    1. Please refer to this post from Microsoft Dev Blogs: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/azure-sql/development-with-sql-in-containers-on-macos/.
    2. About Docker, you can follow this tutorial:  How To Install SQL Server on Mac (M1 | M2 | M3) (2024) (youtube.com).
    3. This link shows you how to run SQL Server on Mac, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co6TkSzc0s8. After you install SQL Server successfully, you may need this.

NOTE: I suggest you uninstall the SQL Server first and restart your computer.

Please feel free to share your issue here.

    Best regards,

    Lucy Chen
