Cannot add phone number to my new email, it says use different alias

Question

When I try adding my number to my new email, it says I cannot use this alias. I even deleted the number from this account and it still says it. When I try adding it back to this alias, it still says I cannot use this alias. My number can't be on any other email because it was on this one and I removed it from this email and I can't add it to any other emails nor back to this one.

Contact your phone carrier:

They might be able to confirm if your number was recently recycled. If so, you might need a new number.

Try a different email provider:

If you're open to using a different email service, consider creating a new account with a different provider and see if you can add your phone number there.
