2016 smtp rely server I need to migrate to 2019

Hello,

I have a server 2016 with SMTP setup on it and I need to migrate it to server 2019. Is there an easy way to do this?

    Hello,

    I consider that you need to manual migration of SMTP services would be required to another server. Below are the basic steps for migration

    Setup new server: Start with installing a clean version of Server 2019 in a new machine or a virtual machine.

    Install SMTP Server feature. After the SMTP service is installed, copy all the settings from the old server to the new one. This may include relay settings, security settings, port numbers, and more.

    If you use a DNS alias for your server, just change it from the old machine to the new one. If you are using the direct machine name, you’ll have to update whatever software or scripts that referenced the old server to instead point to the new server.

    Migrate the mail if required: If there are folders that contain undelivered or archived mail, migrate these manually. The location of these messages can be found in the old server’s SMTP settings.

    Backing Up and Restoring SMTP Configuration

    Below are steps on how you can backup and restore your SMTP configuration, which includes your domains and settings:

    On your old server, to back up, open the Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0.

    Right-click on the SMTP virtual server you want to back up and hit ‘All Tasks’, and ‘Save Configuration to a File’. This will save the file as an XML.

    You can use an external hard drive or a network location accessible by both servers to move the configuration file.

    On your new server, open the IIS 6.0, and under ‘SMTP’ right-click and select ‘New’, then ‘SMTP Virtual Server’.

    This will prompt you for your XML file, select it and your settings will be imported.
