Trouble Connecting Synapse Endpoint to Power BI After Latest Update

Hi, everyone!

I have a connection between Synapse and pbix. Before the last update of Power BI in March 2024, I could connect easily using the SQL Server connector, and I set Database Credentials, Unencrypted Connection, Privacy Level = None. But after the update, when I try to refresh the model in Power BI Desktop, I get this message: "The server name provided doesn't match the server name on the SQL Server SSL certificate. Please contact your administrator or see the link below for more information. Alternatively, you could change your Connection encryption setting. Would you like to continue using an unencrypted connection?"

Maybe you can help me with this. Thanks a lot!

    Hi @Mulluri Nivas

Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

I understand that you are facing issues while connecting the Synapse endpoint to PBI. Before we proceed with the query, could you please confirm if you are using SQL server database to connect to Synapse dedicated SQL pool? Additionally, it would be helpful if you could provide your Power BI desktop version.

Regarding your query, it seems like with the updated version, the Encrypt connection check box is selected to signify that PBI desktop connects to Synapse using an encrypted connection. If the connection to Synapse is not established using an encrypted connection, PBI desktop prompts to connect using an unencrypted connection.

To resolve this, you can go to File > Options and settings > Data source settings, choose your Synapse data source, and uncheck the "Encrypt Connections" option.
