I would like to convert a file that can be saved in the .XPS format to the .XLS format so that I can work with it in Excel.

Thank you for any pointers!

XPS files are designed to preserve document formatting and layout, while XLS files are spreadsheets used in Excel for data analysis and manipulation. Converting directly from XPS to a fully editable XLS format can be tricky because XPS doesn't contain the underlying data in the same way an XLS file does.

Here are a couple options to consider:

Online Converters: Several free online conversion tools can convert XPS to XLS. These services are convenient, but be cautious uploading sensitive documents. Search for "[XPS to XLS converter]" to find these services.

Copy and Paste (with limitations): If your XPS file contains mostly text and tables, you can try opening the XPS file in a program that can read it, such as Microsoft Edge or XPS Viewer, then copying and pasting the data into a new Excel spreadsheet. This method might require some reformatting in Excel, and complex layouts may not translate well.

Use Microsoft Word as an intermediary (better for complex layouts): If your XPS file has a complex layout with tables, you can try opening it in Microsoft Word. Word will do its best to replicate the formatting and then you can save the file as an XLSX file (the modern Excel format). This method may be better at preserving some formatting, but it may not be perfect.

    Hi,

You can try to convert the file to a .pdf file first, and then convert it to a .xls file by using a conversion tool or Excel import .pdf file.

Just checking in to see if the information was helpful. Please let us know if you would like further assistance.
