SCCM Content Library Drive Spanning - Remove drive

We've got a site server which was set up without the NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS file on the C: drive (D: being the primary) and I'd like for C to be for OS only. I know I can move a content library with the transfer tool but I'd rather just remove it from C: as there's no need for a secondary drive at the moment.

Can I just add the NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS file into the root of C: and then delete the files? I feel like a setting needs to be changed somewhere beforehand but I haven't come across anything yet.

We're running config manager on the current release.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

It's strongly not recommend to just simply remove the Content Library from the C: drive as it will destroy the whole Content Library. You should transfer the Content Library to next available drive or a network share folder firstly, and then add the NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS file into the root of C: drive.

Refer to: Move the content library to a remote location

Best regards,
Simon

@SimonRenMSFT-3639 Can I transfer the content from C: to the primary drive (D: in this case?) that already has content on it?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Based on my experience, yes, you can transfer the content from C: to the primary D: drive, as the content library is considered as a whole. Please backup all related things before make changes in your product environment.

Simon

Hi,
You can create no_sms_on_drive.sms for future content that will not store on the OS drive but for the existing content, it is recommended to transfer it to next available drive using the ContentLibraryTransfer.exe, for more information please refer https://systemcenterdudes.com/sccm-move-content-library/

Thanks Eswar but as I stated in my question, I'm not looking to move the content from C:, simply remove it.
