DataWarehouse to DEV

There are already uploading required information to the data warehouse on a schedule. So we could potentially be ingesting it directly from there on to DEV server. How can we proceed with this?

Hi @SQLLover21-0870,

can you please post some more information on the challenge you are facing? What are you trying to achieve?
You can lookup some of the examples here regrading querying the SCSM Data Warehouse DB:

Service Manager Data WareHouse SQL Queries
https://itblog.no/5618

The following source will help you in better understanding the SCSM DW schema:

Service Manager Data Warehouse schema now available
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/system-center-blog/service-manager-data-warehouse-schema-now-available/ba-p/342625

What you can also do is backing up the DB and restoring it to your DEV server, like depicted here:

Move the Service Manager and data warehouse databases to different servers

and in particular:

Move data warehouse databases

The last source is one of the best link collections of links, related to the SCSM data warehouse I have ever seen, maybe you will find it helpful:

System Center Service Manager Data Warehouse and Reporting
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/15608.system-center-service-manager-data-warehouse-and-reporting.aspx

I hope I was able to help you out!

Hi @StoyanChalakov,

Thanks for your feedback. Here is a little more information on the above post:

  1. Currently in our Production server there is a webservice call being made. The call works fine on PROD, but not in UAT and DEV.

  2. Every month, there is a spreadsheet we have to grab from an external source (website) that will update old records or insert new records to SQL Server.

  3. Apparently they are already uploading this information to the data warehouse on a schedule, so we could potentially be ingesting it directly from there instead of needing to manually process a spreadsheet. However, when I checked the data inside the tables, they are repeated and inconsistent.

So from my understanding, it sounds like I can backup the DB and restore it on to DEV and UAT.

My questions:
1. Before starting the restore process, what are some considerations I need to discuss with my team members?
2. What is the process of cleaning up the data?
3. How to automate processmonthly
