Installing SCOM on servers in Azure, and how to deal with the default Azure Monitoring agent.

Are we able to install the SCOM Management Server role on a Windows Server that is already running the Azure Monitoring Agent in Azure. Of course we uninstall the Azure Monitoring Agent first and we can install SCOM management server. But then can we able to connect the server back to Azure Log Analytics workspace to collect Security Events. Is there any way to install the SCOM management server without uninstalling the Azure Monitoring agent.

Hi @shankar431-9012,

As far as I know there is no way of installing the SCOM management server role without first uninstalling the Log Analytics agent.

You should be able to connect your server to the Log Analytics Workspace afterwards:

Connect Operations Manager to Azure Monitor

Hi Leon,

Do you mean it is possible to reinstall Azure monitoring agent after installing Management server role on Azure environment.
We are going to install SCOM 2019 in Azure environment.

Thanks,

The management server will install its own SCOM agent, which you can connect to a Log Analytics workspace.

Hi Leon,

Thank you for the quick response and update. If my understanding correct, we can use the SCOM agent instead of the Azure monitoring agent (even though we can't install Azure monitor agent back after management server installed) which serves the same purpose for collecting the security events.
