No upgrade to Windows 10 2004 or 20H2

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7gen laptop. For some reason (despite clicking on the "check update" button), the laptop is not getting 2004 nor 20H2 update I'm looking forward to. I have checked the known issues section - I was thinking that maybe my laptop is on hold because it has an NVMe drive and even though it's not connected via Thunderbolt, it was preventing the upgrade. But now I see that the NVMe Thunderbolt issue is resolved, and I'm still not getting the upgrade. The Conexant audio driver issues don't apply to me, my laptop is not using any of those (checked all the sound devices to be sure). So, why am I not getting the update?

Hi,

I do appreciate your help. However, before I go with the media upgrade path, I would like to understand why is the Windows Update on my laptop saying that I will get the update "once it's ready" for my computer. I have tried running sfc /scannow and dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, but those didn't change the situation.

I have found another thread - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/39087/i-can-not-update-my-windows-10-to-2004-version.html - suggesting that indeed there are some kind of incompatibilities of Lenovo laptops and Windows 2004 or 20H2.

So, at the moment, I am still giving this some more time for the update to just land for my hardware. I will probably go with the media upgrade path in a couple of weeks.

cheers,
Jan

Hi @JanSrzednicki-6786,

You can manually update with the help of the Windows 10 Update Assistant over here:

Hi @LeonLaude,

I am aware of that path. However, I was made to believe by some other comments that I should rather not try it in such a case, because there is a reason behind my computer not getting the update. I am, however, at loss on what that reason would be.

How do I know what might be the reason for me for not getting the update?

cheers,
Jan

The update is available if you're running at least Windows 10 version 1903.

Yes, I think you should not update from assistant. Like I updated through assistant I have faced some strange issues like light blue colored layer over my screen though such issue is not considered on the health dashboard. I think there are some faults in the laptop only. Let the manufacturers tell when to update to latest version.

Hi,

I'm running 1909, so that should work. However, is it possible that there's a known issue with the specific hardware my laptop (or its peripherals) has that is not listed on the "known issues" page, here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows-10-2004

cheers,

There's always a small chance of that yes, as Microsoft has not tested "all" available hardware that exits.

Hi,

If you're coming from a relatively old release, sometimes the issues are related to changes in the new feature update. However, more often than not, update failures occur due to custom configurations, outdated drivers, incompatible programs, and hardware-related problems.

The fastest way to get the upgrade is through Media creation tool or ISO file.
Please download Media Creation Tool from the link below and select Upgrade this PC at the first screen:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

This will save your files and apps while bringing you up to the latest version by the most stable method. It will also bring all of your Updates current and solve most problems since it reinstalls Windows.

Hope above information can help you.

I have just upgraded several PCs and laptops in my home from 1909 to 20H2 using the system settings > Update feature,, but my Lenovo Yoga 730 does not reflect the option to update. Lenovo's support site reflects that the testing and verification has occurred, so I find it noteworthy that my Lenovo product is also not receiving the update option, and am also curious as to WHY.

Apologies for the necro-post, but I'm receiving notifications for 1909 becoming EOL, so why no upgrade?
